Job/Fellowship Reference: Post-doctoral position
A post-doctoral position to work in seabird research is now open at ISPA – Instituto Universitário under the Exploratory Project IF/00502/2013/CP1186/CT0003, funded by Portuguese National Science Foundation (FCT). Prospective candidates should meet the following conditions:
Mandatory requirements: The post-holder should have a PhD (completed with certificate already awarded) in zoology/biology/ecology and previous experience of research on seabird ecology. Furthermore, the successful candidate should have very strong skills in GIS and data handling and processing, including spatial and activity data (from GLS trackers) and be able to successfully carry out advanced analyses of multiple and complex datasets in a largely autonomous way, including demographic, behavioural and oceanographic data. A proved ability to publish in high impact journals is also mandatory.
Job description: The major duties will include: analyse existing datasets in order to relate individual quality, personality traits, diet and long-term behaviour at sea both during the breeding and non-breeding season; relate those to oceanography. Write-up the results of analyses. Fieldwork will be of limited duration or non-existent.

Address of workplace: The candidate will be working at ISPA – Instituto Universitário de Ciências Psicológicas, Sociais e da Vida, under the direct coordination of Doutor Paulo Catry.
Duration: The position will have a duration of 12 months, starting January 1st, 2015.
Monthly internship for full-time position: According to the regulations of the FCT Scientific Fellowships in Portugal (http://alfa.fct.mctes.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores) the net salary will be of €1.495/month, which will be paid monthly by bank transfer. The fellow will be covered by a personal accident’s insurance and can contribute voluntarily to the national social security system, according to Decreto-Lei n.º 40/89, de 1 de Fevereiro.
Selection Procedure: Candidates will be ranked based on their personal merit as assessed by Curriculum Vitae (90%) and Letter of Motivation (10%). Results will be confirmed (and if necessary readjusted) based on references and interviews, as needed.
