A Post-Doc research position is open within the research unit GREEN-it "Bioresources for Sustainability" (UID/Multi/04551/2013) supported by national funds through FCT/MCTES.
Scientific Topic: Biological Sciences, Biotechnology.
Education: Candidates with PhD degree in Biotechnology, Biochemistry or similar áreas.
Outros Requisitos (other requirements):
- At least 5 years Post-Doc experience as researcher;
- Demonstrated experience in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry and Microbiology in particular in protein characterization and protein engineering, rational and random, and high throughput screenings;
- Demonstration of independent research experience, project leadership and networking;
- Experience in student supervision;
- Availability to start in July (1st).
Work Plan:
In this work, an innovative combination of protein engineering and synthetic approaches will be applied to improve biocatalysts properties and fine-tune multiple critical components of gene expression (including promoters, Ribosome Binding Sites (RBS) and also 5´ untranslated regions (5’UTRs)) in order to construct new optimized cellular platforms for lignin biotransformation.
The candidate will be enrolled in project coordination and supervision of Masters and PhD students.

Research place: The candidate will work at ITQB (Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica), Laboratory of “Tecnologia Enzimática Microbiana” under scientific guidance of Doctor Lígia O. Martins.
Duration of the Fellowship: This fellowship is for 6 months, with possibility of extension. The start date is planned for 1st July 2015. The scholarship will be awarded on an exclusive basis, as stated in Fellowship Regulations of Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, I.P. – 2013 and on Fellowship Regulations of Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica (ITQB).
Monthly allowance: The grant amounts to € 1495, according to the table of values of grants awarded directly by the FCT, I.P. in the Country (http://alfa.fct.mctes.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores) and payment will be made, monthly, through bank transfer.
Selection criteria: The selection method includes curriculum evaluation and possible interview (for a selected group) including a succinct (5-10 min) presentation of prior experience (in English). For the candidates selected for interview, the CV will count 50% and the interview/presentation 50%.
