A call is open for one postdoctoral position (BPD) at the Biomolecular Engineering Group from the Associated Laboratory REQUIMTE, Faculty of Sciences and Technology, Universidade Nova de Lisboa (http://www.requimte.pt/ucibio/), in the framework of the ERA-IB-2 European Consortium CHImerASE – “Integrated platform for de novo design and development of a chimeric enzyme for high-value chemicals”, Project Ref. ERA-IB-2/0001/2013, financed by FCT/MEC (PIDDAC).
1. Scientific Area: Biotechnology, Biocatalysis, Molecular modeling and simulations, Computational protein design.
2. Admission Requirements:
a. Ph.D. in Computational Chemistry, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Bioinformatics, Biochemistry, Biophysics or in a related discipline.
b. Experience in protein science and/or in computational chemistry field, e.g. molecular dynamics simulations, de novo design or docking methods. Programming skills will be a plus.
An ideal candidate must be able to conduct independently task forces together with external collaborators, within the project framework.
3. Job Description: Enzyme engineering and biocatalyst design. Molecular dynamics characterization of de novo design protein models, providing theoretical guidance for rational design of new biocatalyst, concerning its catalytic proficiency and specificity for a given enzymatic activity.
4. Applied Legislation and Regulations: The Fellowship is awarded under the Law 40/2004 of August 18 and amended by the Decree-Law n.º 202/2012 of August 27 (Status of Scientific Research Fellow) and Decree-Law n.º 233/2012 of 29 October, and the Law n.º 12/2013 of January 29; Regulation Research Grant from the Foundation for Science and Technology in force (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/ bolsas/estatutobolseiro.phtml.en) and Regulation from the Foundation of Faculty of Sciences and Technology of Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
5. Work Place: Biomolecular Engineering Group of the Associated Laboratory for Green Chemistry – REQUIMTE, Faculty of Sciences and Technology, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, under the scientific supervision of Dr. Ricardo Branco (http://sites.fct.unl.pt/biomolecular_eng/home)
6. Contract duration: The scholarship will be for 6 months starting on the 1st of January 2015, and can be renewed within the 3 years project’s timeframe.
7. Salary: The monthly maintenance stipend is €1495, according to the current stipend policy of the Funding Agency FCT, I.P. (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/ valores.phtml.en).
8. Selection Criteria: The selection methods will comprise two phases:
CV assessment (75%):
a. Scientific merit, based on the curriculum evaluation (30%);
b. Relevant experience for the project development, namely with molecular dynamics simulations and computational de novo design methods (30%);
c. Candidate profile adequacy and letters of recommendation (15%);
Interview (25%):
The top ranked candidates with the best CV evaluation will be interviewed by the selection panel, which is eliminatory.

10. Communication of Results: An alphabetically ordered list of candidates will be displayed at the Department of Chemistry and it will be communicated to the candidates by email.
